Ovulation Induction

Ovulation induction is a fertility treatment for women who do not ovulate, usually presenting as irregular or even completely absent periods. The most common cause for this is a condition known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Ovulation Induction (OI) is a fertility treatment used to stimulate the ovary to produce and release eggs, particularly in cases where a woman is having difficulty ovulating naturally. This technique is commonly employed for women who have irregular menstrual cycles or who do not ovulate at all. Ovulation induction can involve various methods, including the administration of medications such as Clomiphene citrate or Letrozole, which stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs.

The process typically begins with an evaluation of the woman’s menstrual cycle and hormone levels to determine the most appropriate treatment protocol. Ovulation induction is often combined with monitoring of hormone levels and ultrasound examinations to track follicle development in the ovaries. Once the follicles reach a certain size, a trigger shot of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) may be administered to induce ovulation.

Ovulation Induction is frequently used in conjunction with assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF) to improve the chances of conception. It’s important to note that while OI can enhance ovulation, it may not address other fertility issues such as tubal blockages or sperm abnormalities. Therefore, the specific approach to fertility treatment depends on the individual’s medical history and underlying causes of infertility.
