Our Fetal Medicine Services

Our Fetal Medicine Unit offers a comprehensive range of services to monitor and manage the health of both mother and baby during pregnancy. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology and evidence-based practices, we provide:

1. Fetal Scanning Services
  • Early Pregnancy Scan : Conducted between 6–8 weeks to confirm pregnancy, assess fetal heartbeat, and determine gestational age
  • First Trimester Scan : Performed between 11–14 weeks to measure nuchal translucency and assess the risk of chromosomal abnormalities.
  • Targeted Anomaly Scan : A detailed ultrasound between 18–22 weeks to examine fetal anatomy and detect structural abnormalities.
  • Growth Scan : Monitors fetal growth and amniotic fluid levels to identify potential issues like intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).
  • Fetal Neurosonogram: Assesses fetal brain development and detects neural tube defects.
  • Multiple Pregnancy Scan : Evaluates the health and development of multiple fetuses, including the detection of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS).
2. Prenatal Screening
We offer advanced screening tests to assess the risk of genetic conditions and complications:
  • Screening for Chromosomal Abnormalities : Non-invasive tests to evaluate the risk of Down syndrome and other chromosomal disorders.
  • Screening for Pre-Eclampsia : Identifies early signs of pre-eclampsia to manage and mitigate risks to maternal and fetal health.
3. Prenatal Diagnosis
Diagnostic procedures to confirm or rule out fetal abnormalities:
  • Amniocentesis: A procedure to obtain amniotic fluid for genetic testing, typically performed between 15–20 weeks.
  • Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS): A test to collect placental tissue for early genetic analysis, usually done between 10–13 weeks.
  • Fetal Blood Sampling: Involves taking a blood sample from the fetus to diagnose blood disorders or infections.
4. Fetal Therapy
Interventional treatments to manage certain fetal conditions:
  • Intrauterine Blood Transfusion: Administering red blood cells to the fetus to treat conditions like fetal anemia.
  • Fetoscopic Laser Photocoagulation: A minimally invasive procedure to treat twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome by sealing abnormal blood vessel connections.
  • Fetal Shunt Placement: Insertion of a shunt to drain excess fluid from areas like the brain or chest, addressing conditions such as hydrocephalus or pleural effusion.
5. Fetal Cardiology
Specialized care for diagnosing and managing fetal heart conditions:
  • Fetal Echocardiography: Detailed imaging to assess fetal heart structure and function, identifying congenital heart defects
  • Assessment of Blood Flow: Doppler studies to evaluate blood circulation in the fetal heart and major vessels
6.Specialized Care for Twin & Multiple Pregnancies

Twin and triplet pregnancies require closer monitoring and advanced fetal assessment due to higher risks of complications like preterm birth, growth discordance, and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). At Iqraa Fertility, our fetal medicine experts use state-of-the-art imaging and Doppler technologies to carefully evaluate the health of each fetus.

Our Care Includes:
  • Chorionicity and Amnionicity Assessment(at 11–13 weeks): Determines whether the twins share a placenta or amniotic sac, which is critical for managing risk.
  • Sequential Growth Monitoring: Twins are monitored with more frequent scans to assess individual growth patterns and detect discordant growth or IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction)
  • Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) Screening: For monochorionic twins (sharing a placenta), we offer early detection of TTTS and timely referral for fetoscopic laser therapy when needed.
  • Doppler Flow Studies: Non-invasive monitoring of blood flow in each twin to assess placental function and fetal wellbeing.
  • Early Anomaly Detection & Neurosonography: High-resolution scans to identify structural or neural defects early in both fetuses.
  • Twin Reversed Arterial Perfusion (TRAP) Sequence Management: Rare but serious condition in monochorionic twins that we can detect and manage with timely intervention.
  • Counseling for Selective Fetal Growth Restriction (sFGR): Expert guidance and monitoring when one twin grows slower than the other.
